Abstract : Jean Cruveilhier (1791-1874) was a researcher in pathological anatomy and professor of human anatomy at the Faculty of Paris. He was Chair of Pathological Anatomy in Paris in 1836 and President of the Société anatomique for over forty years. During his career, Cruveilhier experimented and studied many different concepts and pathologies. He incorporated notes that highlighted functional, surgical or medical significance to the corresponding anatomical description. He wrote significant anatomical textbooks as Anatomie pathologique du corps humain, Anatomie descriptive, Traitè d’anatomie pathologique gènèrale and Anatomie du système nerveux de l'homme. His anatomical work was widely recognized both in France and abroad. Cruveilhier was elected to the Académie de Médecine in 1836, becoming its president in 1859.
